About this Blog
This blog describes my personal life and experiences as a flight student aiming to become a pilot. I am enrolled in a full time professional pilot programme organized by SL Flight Training in my home country Finland. My course, AOL 2/12 started in July 2012 and estimated graduation will be in the fall 2014.
The aim and goal of this blog is to offer an interesting insiders point of view on studying to become a professional pilot and to accurately describe all the aspects of the training and life around it. I write this blog mainly for three reasons. Firstly, I hope that this blog could provide ideas and inspiration to those dreaming about starting pilot training and a career in aviation. Secondly, I also write for myself so that I could collect and relive memories from my student years. Thirdly, writing this blog provides me a good chance to brush up on my English skills, which are quite essential in the aviation world.
I am an active and enthusiastic sport aviator and so this blog frequently contains entries related to leisure flying and aviation in general in addition to texts about my flight training.
SL Flight Training
SL Flight Training, also known as Salpauslento, is a flight school established in 1970. It's main field is professional pilot training. SL Flight Training operates from Helsinki-Malmi airport (EFHF), which is a general aviation airport situated close to our capitals main airport, Helsinki-Vantaa. In addition to various modular courses the school has a professional pilot programme, which starts two times a year. Students are enrolled in a 2.5 year full-time training programme consisting of theory courses and flight training from zero to frozen ATPL. Although the course structure is actually modular, it behaves like a typical European integrated training with no gaps between the different modules.
SL Flight Training has a nice fleet of single-engine piston airplanes, consisting of nine Cessna 152, two Cessna 172 and two Piper Turbo Arrow IV aircraft, the latter of which are so-called complex aircraft used in commercial pilot and instrument flying training. Multi-engine training is acquired with a fleet of three Beechcraft King Air C90 turboprops belonging to the school's sister company Scanwings. The school also has an FNPT II flight training device used in instrument flying training.
